About Guies Roc Blanc

We build calculators for one of the more nerve-wracking moments in personal finance: you've got a chunk of cash and you're deciding what to do with your mortgage. Our job is to make that decision clear, honest, and yours.

What we do

Guies Roc Blanc publishes free, browser-based tools that help US homeowners understand mortgage recasting and its alternatives. Every calculation runs on your device — we don't collect your loan details, and we don't ask you to create an account. The tools are built to answer a real question, not just spit out a single number: what happens if I recast, and is it actually the best use of this money?

Our editorial standards

  • Numbers over hype. Our calculators use the same amortization math your lender uses, and we show our formulas openly so you can check them.
  • Honest about limits. Estimates are labeled as estimates. We never present our output as an official re-amortization or a guarantee of lender terms.
  • Sourced and dated. When we describe lender policies, we frame them as commonly-observed terms and point you to primary sources, because these details change.
  • Independent. We are not a lender or broker and are not affiliated with any bank we mention. We make money from advertising and partner links, clearly labeled, never from steering you toward a particular product.

What we are not

We are an independent tools publisher — not a mortgage lender, not a broker, and not a financial, tax, or legal advisor. Nothing on this site is personalized advice. For decisions about your specific situation, talk to your loan servicer and, where appropriate, a licensed professional.

Editorial standards in practice

Independence only means something if it shows up in the work. Three rules keep us honest. We separate fact from estimate on the page, so you always know which numbers are math and which are our read of a policy. We cite primary sources — the CFPB, servicer help centres, and the amortization standard itself — rather than recycling other blogs. And when we can't verify something to our own satisfaction, we say "confirm with your servicer" instead of guessing, because a confident wrong answer about your mortgage is worse than an honest "check this."

We also try hard not to let the business model bend the advice. Plenty of pages on the web nudge every reader toward a refinance because refinances pay well. We'd rather tell you when a recast — or doing nothing at all — beats the option that would earn us more. If the tools ever stop being trustworthy, the whole site is worthless, so we treat accuracy as the product, not a feature.

How we make money

This site is free to use and funded two ways: display advertising and commissions from partner links (for example, refinance-rate or insurance comparison services). Partner links are marked, and a commission never costs you anything extra. Ad and affiliate revenue keeps the tools free and doesn't influence the math or our recommendations. See our ad & cookie policy for details.

How we build and check our tools

Every calculator here runs on the standard amortization mathematics lenders themselves use. Before a tool ships we test its output against worked examples and independent amortization references to confirm the payment, interest and schedule figures match to the cent. When we describe lender policies we frame them as commonly-observed practice and date them, because servicer terms change and a stale number is worse than none.

Why "Guies Roc Blanc"

The name nods to a landmark in the Pyrenees — a fixed, reliable point of reference. That's the bar we hold our tools to: a place you can check a big financial decision against and trust the result. We'd rather ship one calculator that's genuinely dependable than a dozen that only look busy.

Who this is for

Our readers are usually mid-decision: they've come into money from a home sale, a bonus, or an inheritance and are weighing whether to pour it into the mortgage. We write for that moment — practical, numbers-first, and honest about trade-offs, including when doing nothing to the mortgage is the smarter move.

Corrections and updates

Find an error or an out-of-date lender policy? Tell us and we'll fix it. We review our lender guidance periodically and refresh the "last reviewed" notes when we do. Accuracy is the entire product here, so we take reports seriously.

What we cover — and what's next

Today the site centres on mortgage recasting: the core calculator, lender-specific estimators, and the decisions that surround a lump-sum payment — recast versus refinance, paying down versus investing, and the escrow realities most tools gloss over. We're expanding into the neighbouring questions homeowners ask in the same breath, from extra-payment payoff timelines to home-equity strategy, so a single visit can settle a whole decision rather than one slice of it. If there's a scenario you wish we covered, that feedback shapes what we build next.
